Where do you want to go?

Cool Travel Website

I found out about a great website that provides excellent information about destinations around the world. It also gives you all the typical travel deal searches, but its best feature is the destination content. You can dig down as far as you want to go to get information, tips attractions, walking tours and maps of the country and city. This is perfect if you are visiting a place you have not been to before. Helps you get a real feel of the area and provides additional links for more information and detail.

Keeping it Together

Here we are in the middle of summer and I have so much in the works it’s crazy. So I thought Id take a minute to share what I’m working on and hopefully my readers will get motivated to accomplish some of their own goals.

First off, I decided to take my remaining 2 weeks vacation as single days on Fridays for the summer. It is great having a 3 day weekend every week of the summer.

Second, I am working on me. I’ve lost 15 pounds in the past couple of months and started a new workout program using www.p90x.com. I have been looking for a portable/home fitness program that did not require weights or a gym membership. Since I travel so much throughout the year, I can’t have an interruption in my workout routine. That was always the problem with a gym.

I’m also doing my best to explore the Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts areas to gain an appreciation and hopefully a love for the place in which I now live. Even after 3 years the culture shock is still frustrating, but there are many things I have developed an appreciation for and I am comfortable with it for now.

As usual, Ive been traveling a lot for business and pleasure. Since my last post (OMG has it been that long) I have been to Beijing, China; NYC; Portland, Oregon; Vancouver, Canada; Seattle, Washington; all over Vermont; Montreal, Canada; Quebec, Canada; Charlevoix, Canada; Mexico City and surrounding colonial cities; London, UK; Capetown, South Africa; Walt Disney World, Florida. WOW, even I cant believe it sometimes!

So that is all for now. I hope to be blogging more regualarly and sharing my various insights to anyone who is interested in keeping up.

Democratic Presidential Debate

Democratic Presidential Debate magnify

I watched the CNN/YouTube Democratic Debate last night. I was really impressed with the way it went. It was all very positive and forward thinking. While the candidates still had a bit of their political faces on, for the most part they made an effort to get out of the typical debate box and honestly answer some real questions. I applaud the production.

As for the candidates, I love the way Hillary positions herself in this race. Either she or her advisors are very smart and savvy. If she wins it will be largely due to her correct exposure.

I still think Obama is too young and inexperienced for this right now. Not to mention a prime target for would be assasins. I dont know if America is ready for a black President….sadly. But are they ready for a woman? We seem to be ready for a change, but how much change?

Joe Biden had a couple of good comments but too religious for me.

Christopher Dodd and Bill Richardson just dont look like presidents. They did not say anything particularly impressive either.

Mike Gravel…..what in the world was he thinking. He was so negative and such a mudslinger. No polish at all and no diplomacy. He made a complete fool of himself. This debate buried him I believe.

Same with Dennise Kucinich. He tried to use the show like an advertisement. Promoting his ridiculous text message for peace thing….whatever that is….more of a ploy to get my phone number so he can message me and interrupt my life.

Finally John Edwards. I dont know about this one. This either hurt or helped him. He was almost too honest. “Ask me any question but dont be upset if the answer is no” kind of approach. Refreshing, but not a way to appeal to the masses.

If the USA is not ready for a woman or a black man as president then John Edwards will be the winner. It will be an interesting race. Im curious to see how much prejudice still exists in this country.

If you are not keeping up, then go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Democratic_presidential_candidates for a great overview of the Democratic candidates.

You can also go to http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/ for information and a replay of last nights debate.

Republicans are up for Sept 17th debate in the same fashion. If anyone is really interested

My bets are still on Hillary. I think she has the experience, the connections, the savvy and the presence to be the next great president. Besides I’d love to see President Bush replaced by a woman and even better will be to watch her succeed in cleaning up his mess. That would be one for the history books.

See Hillary’s website at http://www.hillaryclinton.com/

I love how she is using the Internet to encourage people to get involved. Brilliant approach!!

Harry Potter

While I was away in Norway the new Harry Potter book came out. I think half the plane was reading it on the way home. So I got the bug too and went to see the movie last night (since I have not been keeping up with the books).

I thought it was pretty good. Special effect are always great with the Potter films. The crystal ball scene was really wild. I did not think the story was all that great, but I know it is kind of a chapter in the long saga.

Norway

Spent the week on a tour in Norway. What a great destination. If you are looking for natural beauty and uncrowded European cities, you need to come to Oslo and Bergen Norway. Both cities and very walkable and have surprising histories.

Im writing this as I sit in my hotel room in Geiranger, Norway. I have a beautiful view of the Geiranger fjord. Tommorrow we go a little further north to Alesund. The drive today was spectacular with a mix of countryside, glaciers and fjord crossings. Dinner tonight was here at the Union hotel. It was a great spread of seafood, cheeses, meats and sweets.I will have to add this destination to one of my top ten. It reminds me of a mix of Switzerland and Scotland. Put it on your list as a place to travel sometime.
